On Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) cleared Blue Origin for takeoff. With FAA clearance, the company is set to have its first ever crewed spaceflight on July 20. Former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, his brother, and other crew members will be on the flight to space.
Blue Origin’s rocket launch is the next step in the CEO space race that has unfolded over the last few months. While Virgin Galactic CEO Richard Branson says he beat Bezos to space this past Sunday, Bezos contends he’ll still be the first CEO to truly reach space, as his rocket will take him beyond 62 miles above Earth, which is generally considered where space starts. Richard Branson’s flight went about 57 miles up on Sunday.
