Everything you need to know about Elon Musk’s Neuralink demo
Elon Musk provided a demonstration Friday for Neuralink’s latest device – an AI-powered brain chip that is supposed to record and stimulate brain activity. So, how does all that work? Musk implanted the chip in pigs to demonstrate the chip’s power.
Gertrude was the name of the pig with the chip implant in her brain that Musk used to show the audience what the new technology was capable of. During the demonstration, the audience was able to see a visual spike in activity in the chip – or link as it is also referred to – whenever Gertrude made contact with something.
Musk explained the importance of that data, and revealed that any data recorded by the link could be easily transferred to a phone or other device. He went on to refer to the chip as a FitBit for your head, since it can monitor, track and record brain activity, much like the smartwatch records health and fitness data.
What else can the Neuralink chip do? Is Musk getting closer to testing the technology on humans?
