Richard Branson's flight to the edge of space was a success

On Sunday, Richard Branson finally achieved his life-long dream of going to space, and beat his rival Jeff Bezos in the CEO space race that has been unfolding over the last few months.

Branson and his team successfully flew to the edge of space aboard the VSS Unity. The space plane WhitKnightTwo carried Unity above the clouds, then rockets were used to get Unity the rest of the way to the edge of space.

Sunday’s mission was picture perfect, as no major hiccups occurred during the flight. Branson and his crew were able to experience true weightlessness when they reached space, and saw an incredible view of Earth below.

The successful completion of the mission was dubbed as the first step in a new space age. Branson and crew were given the title of astronaut once arriving back on Earth and were ceremoniously pinned with astronaut wings during a post-flight celebration.

Be sure to check out all of the details here about how Unity made it to space and back on Sunday.
