After several tries, Elon Musk’s company SpaceX finally stuck the landing with a Starship prototype.
Wednesday’s landing was the first time a Starship has successfully launched and landed without exploding, aside from the short “hop” flights the company used to test the Starship before the first major launch.
After the initial launch several months ago, everything went well until the spacecraft failed to slow down after making a flip to return to the ground upright. The Starship smashed the ground at full speed and exploded on impact. In another attempt, a Starship prototype landed beautifully, but exploded several seconds after landing.
